Balearics birth tax break pays €600,000 early

More than 1,200 taxpayers across the Balearics have received around €600,000 in early birth tax-break payments between 1 January and 15 July 2026. The regional government pays the money before families submit their income-tax return. The Ministry of Economy, Finance and Innovation says the scheme gives families access to the regional tax deduction sooner after a child is born.

The early-payment option began on 1 November 2024. Since then, the Balearic Government has paid almost €2.5 million to roughly 5,400 taxpayers.

Payments have risen since launch

In 2024, the government processed 766 applications worth about €336,000. That rose to 3,418 applications and almost €1.6 million in 2025.

Antoni Costa, the first vice-president and minister for Economy, Finance and Innovation, said the figures showed families needed support when the costs linked to a new child put pressure on household finances.

Apply within 15 working days

Families seeking an early payment must apply within 15 working days of the birth. They can instead claim the birth tax deduction through their income-tax return.

For the 2023 and 2024 tax years, almost 8,000 taxpayers claimed the deduction through their returns, worth more than €3.7 million. Combined with early payments, around 13,400 taxpayers in the Balearics have so far received nearly €6.3 million.

Law 7/2024 raised the income limits for the full deduction to €52,800 for individual returns and €84,480 for joint returns. Above those limits, taxpayers can still claim half the deduction: €900 for a first child, €1,200 for a second, €1,500 for a third and €1,800 for a fourth or later child.
