6,430 deaths: Balearics toll rises as births climb

The Balearics recorded 4,915 births between January and July 2026, a rise of 0.51% on the same period last year. Deaths have also increased, reaching 6,430 by week 35 — 4.92% more than at the same point a year earlier. The National Statistics Institute (INE) published the figures on Wednesday, 16 September.
There were 802 births across the islands in July: 413 girls and 389 boys. Mothers aged 30 to 34 accounted for the largest group, with 249 births. They were followed by mothers aged 35 to 39, with 216, and those aged 25 to 29, with 171.
In week 35 alone, 159 people died in the Balearics.
