Palma, Mallorca: pupils board a bus blindfolded on Thursday, 15 October, to learn what passengers with sight loss need from public transport. At stop 197 outside IES Ramon Llull school, students training to care for people who need support wait with white canes. Rehabilitation specialists from ONCE help them onto the bus.

Palma’s municipal bus company, EMT, organised the exercise with the ONCE Foundation for World White Cane Day. Inside the bus, the pupils try its accessibility features: reserved seats, stop-request buttons marked in Braille and audio announcements for upcoming stops. They also learn why clear, accessible information matters on public transport.

ONCE shows them Cyberpass, a system that tells people with sight loss which buses are approaching a stop and when they are expected to arrive. The exercise is part of joint EMT and ONCE training aimed at improving bus access and support for passengers with disabilities.
