Mallorca: More police urged for Blocus rally in Palma
Mallorca faces a planned Blocus rally in Palma on Friday, 30 October: the Balearic government wants extra police to help prevent possible trouble. The gathering was announced on social media. Government spokesman Antoni Costa said the Spanish government’s delegation in the Balearic Islands had not told his administration whether a security operation was ready.
Speaking after a meeting of the Balearic cabinet, Costa said his government respects peaceful demonstrations but that this rally did not appear to be peaceful. He condemned calls for violence and warned that disorder could follow.
Costa urged the delegation to deploy more officers, strengthen police intelligence work and coordinate with local police. He said he hoped a security plan was in place and that the rally would pass without incident.
