Mallorca: Palma 'Blocus' rally prompts call for more police
Palma, Mallorca: a ‘Blocus’ gathering called on social media for Friday 30 October prompts the Balearic government to seek more police over fears of disorder. Balearic president Marga Prohens urges those involved to act responsibly and says she hopes there will be no incidents. Government spokesman Antoni Costa says the planned gathering does not appear to be peaceful.
Prohens says people and shopkeepers should not have to feel afraid. In a post on X, she warned that anyone behind violence or disorder should face the full force of the law.
Costa says the government respects peaceful demonstrations, but condemns calls for violence. He has asked the Spanish government’s delegation in the Balearic Islands for extra officers, stronger police intelligence and coordination with local police forces to help prevent incidents.
The Balearic government has not been told whether a security operation is planned, Costa says. He hopes one is in place and that the gathering passes without incident.
