Rescuers save 17 people from a boat about 12 miles south of Formentera, in the Balearic Islands, on Wednesday, 14 October. Spain’s maritime rescue service, Salvamento Marítimo, and the Guardia Civil take part in the operation, which begins at about 08.15, according to the Spanish government delegation. The delegation describes the boat as a patera.
The rescue follows the arrival of seven boats on the shores of the Balearic Islands on Tuesday. People were aboard those boats, but the information provided does not say how many.
