Boat theft in Sóller ends with arrest near Eivissa
The Guardia Civil arrested a 52-year-old man on Sunday after intercepting a charter boat allegedly taken from the port of Sóller, Mallorca, near Tagomago, off Eivissa. The vessel was valued at more than €1 million.
The emergency service 112 alerted officers to the reported theft after it was discovered that morning. The charter company helped establish the boat’s location, with a man and a woman on board.
A Guardia Civil Air Service helicopter and two vessels from the Provincial Maritime Service were deployed to find it. Officers repeatedly instructed the skipper to stop the engines after locating the boat near Tagomago, but he initially failed to comply.
The Guardia Civil said the man attempted to ram its vessels during a pursuit lasting about half an hour by air and sea. He eventually stopped resisting and the boat was intercepted.
The man, who is from Eastern Europe, was arrested on suspicion of boat theft, assaulting an officer and disobeying orders.
