Bomb threats hit European flights, three linked to Madrid

Bomb threats hit more than a dozen flights between European airports on Thursday: three took off from Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport in Madrid, Spain, or had the Spanish capital as their destination. Spain’s State Aviation Safety Agency (AESA) says each warning triggers procedures to assess and manage the risk.

Airport operators, security forces, airlines and air traffic service providers work with other authorities on the response. The steps they take depend on the risk in each case, AESA says. Its priority is to protect passengers, crews and airport infrastructure. The agency also joins the response through its role overseeing civil aviation security and airport security rules.
