Mallorca hospital gets €32,000 for bowel cancer research
Son Espases University Hospital in Palma, Mallorca, receives 32,000 euros for bowel cancer research from Menorcan YouTuber David Triay, known online as el Cromas. The Balearic Health Ministry announced the donation on Wednesday, 14 October. The money will fund research into bowel cancer, also called colorectal cancer, across the Balearic Islands.
Triay has seen the disease affect relatives and others close to him. He also needed surgery for a colon problem. During his treatment, he met Dr Álvaro García, a colorectal surgeon at Son Espases. The ministry says that experience showed him the importance of research for prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
Triay has used his following of more than 11 million people to raise awareness and funds. The ministry says the appeal has drawn a strong response, and all 32,000 euros raised will go to research projects in the Balearic Islands. The campaign remains open for donations through the fundraising platform of the Balearic Islands Health Research Institute, IdISBa.
