Mallorca breast cancer film brings six to Brussels
Mallorca’s breast cancer documentary brings six women to Brussels on Tuesday, 29 September 2026: they tell European lawmakers what the illness has meant in their lives. The film, Sacar pecho. De viaje contra el miedo, follows eight women on a journey through Mallorca’s Serra de Tramuntana. Six of them speak at the European Parliament, at a presentation backed by the Consell de Mallorca.
People, not just patients
Shery Pascua was 27 when she was diagnosed. She asks others to see the women in the film as “people, not just patients”. Sharing her story, she says, might help the next woman feel a little less alone.
Ana Rey Carricondo says making the film helped her talk about feelings she had kept locked away since her diagnosis. Speaking in Brussels matters to her because decisions made there affect many people. She wants those making them to see the lives behind the figures.
A journey from Mallorca to Parliament
Before the screening, some of the women meet Adam Jarubas, chair of the European Parliament’s Public Health Committee. They discuss prevention, early detection, research and support throughout treatment. The women then speak at the presentation before the film is shown and the audience joins a discussion.
The Tramuntana journey ties together the film’s conversations about fear, treatment, mutual support and life after cancer. Its Brussels screening follows presentations in Mallorca and Spain’s Congress of Deputies. For the women telling their stories, it puts those conversations before lawmakers as well as a cinema audience.
