Mallorca breast screening leads to 77 cancer diagnoses
Mallorca, Balearic Islands: breast screening figures show that 77 women were diagnosed with cancer after further tests in 2025. On the island, 24,020 women took part in the programme. Across the Balearic Islands, 32,232 women took part and 92 breast cancers were diagnosed, according to the Balearic Islands Health Ministry.
More women take part
On Mallorca, 74% of women invited to screening attended. Across the islands, participation rose by 20% compared with 2024, and the share of invited women who attended climbed from 70% to 75%.
The programme is for women aged 45 to 74 who have no symptoms. It aims to find tumours before they can be felt. After screening in 2025, 1,139 women were sent to hospital breast units for further tests.
Appointments now arrive by text
Invitations now come by text message rather than letter. Each message gives the date, time and place of the mammogram, along with a phone number for changing the appointment.
The programme sent 43,202 invitations across the Balearic Islands in 2025, up 4,664 on the year before. The Health Ministry is urging invited women to attend, saying screening can cut the risk of dying from breast cancer by up to 40%.
