Bus accident in Valldemossa kills tourist after lamppost falls

A bus accident in Valldemossa, Mallorca, killed a 36-year-old Syrian tourist on Monday, 17 August, after a bus knocked down a lamppost at a public transport stop. The incident happened at about 15.40, according to the SAMU 061 emergency service.

The fallen lamppost hit a group of people waiting at the stop. The tourist suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.

His partner, a woman aged about 30, was treated for an anxiety crisis. A 42-year-old woman who lives on Mallorca sustained chest injuries, while the bus driver also required medical attention after a panic attack.

All three were taken to Hospital Juaneda. One was assessed as less seriously injured and two had minor injuries.
