Palma buses: PSIB warns of 75-minute gaps
Palma, Mallorca: buses on some routes now run 75 minutes apart, the PSIB says, as it calls for shorter waits. On Wednesday, 14 October 2026, the party accused Palma’s Municipal Transport Company (EMT) of cutting services on routes used by local people. The city says it carries more passengers than in 2022 and has a larger fleet than it did in 2019.
Longer waits on local routes
PSIB spokesman Xisco Dalmau said gaps between buses had grown from 30 to 60 minutes on some routes and from 60 to 75 minutes on others. Route 34 had no service for some weeks, he said.
The party’s mayoral candidate, Iago Negueruela, wants more buses, more drivers and shorter waits. He named routes 4, 5, 7, 8, 20, 30 and 35 as priorities for local passengers. He also wants people holding a single transport card or a TIB card to get priority so they can reach work or health centres.
City points to its fleet
City spokeswoman Mercedes Celeste said EMT serves 61 million passengers a year, 80 per cent more than in 2022. She said its fleet has grown from 161 buses in 2019 to 193 now, with 116 bought during the current administration. The city has also introduced routes 30 and 36, she said.
Celeste did not assess the proposal to give cardholders priority over tourists. For now, the PSIB’s call for more frequent local buses remains unanswered by the city’s fleet figures.
