Butane cylinder hits €18.84 in Spain on Tuesday
Spain’s regulated butane cylinder price rises to €18.84 on Tuesday, an increase of 4.96%. The new ceiling applies to traditional bottled liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) containers weighing between 8 and 20 kilograms. A ruling published in the Official State Gazette on Monday confirms the change.
LPG is a pressurised fuel made mainly from butane and used as an alternative to natural gas, particularly in places without a connection to the gas network. Its retail price is set by the state rather than the market and is reviewed every two months, on the third Tuesday of the month, by the Directorate-General for Energy Policy and Mines.
Raw materials and freight push up the price
The Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge said raw-material prices had risen by 8.24%, while freight costs were up 10.27%. The stronger euro against the dollar also fed into the calculation.
The review also takes account of a temporary €11.25-per-tonne cut in hydrocarbons tax, in force from 1 September under Royal Decree-law 18/2026.
Price cap leaves a shortfall
The regulated price can move by no more than 5% at each two-month review, whether up or down. Without that cap and the tax measure, the maximum price would have reached €18.89.
The gap will be carried into future regulated-price reviews, while staying within the 5% limit. Spain used 57 million LPG containers of different sizes in 2025, but total bottled LPG consumption has fallen by more than 12% since 2021.
