The Association of Municipalities with Territory in National Parks (Amuparna) says the meeting gives members a chance to share experience and work more closely to conserve protected areas. Its president, Ángel Pérez, says the towns and cities must also seek prosperity and wellbeing for their people.

Palma mayor Jaime Martínez says choosing Cabrera is a chance to make the park better known and strengthen cooperation between municipalities responsible for natural areas. He points to Palma’s coastline and its connection with the Serra de Tramuntana, and says the city is expanding green spaces, restoring natural areas and improving their links.

After the opening, representatives attend a talk and a round table on the benefits nature provides, known as ecosystem services. They discuss carbon capture, protection of the environment, resources and sustainable tourism.
