Cala Major park: Palma takes 1,200m² plot for green space

A run-down, unused plot in Sant Agustí is set to become a new Cala Major park. On Tuesday, 15 September, Palma Mayor Jaime Martínez and Consell de Mallorca president Llorenç Galmés signed the free transfer of the 1,200-square-metre site to the city. Palma plans green space, an outdoor exercise area and a playground there.

Martínez said the project answers a long-standing call from Cala Major, where more than 7,200 people now live. He said the neighbourhood needs more open spaces for local people.

Palma City Council has already renewed streets and pavements, upgraded public lighting, opened the Els Lleons centre for older people and extended EMT bus line 20 to Sant Agustí.

Further plans include revamping Voramar park and creating the Joan Miró day centre with the Balearic Government. Martínez also said up to four million square metres would be added to the future metropolitan forest.

Galmés said the land transfer would bring the new green space, exercise area and playground to people in both Cala Major and Sant Agustí.
