Mallorca's Cala Oli demolition to reclaim 195 square metres
Mallorca is set to regain 195 square metres of public coast: demolition begins this week at Cala Oli in Bendinat, in the municipality of Calvià. An old building on the seafront is coming down, along with its terraces and stairs. The Balearic government's Department of the Sea and the Water Cycle approved the work at the request of the interested party.
The department says removing the structures will restore the natural shape of this stretch of coast. It will also reduce risks linked to their deterioration and exposure to waves and storms.
The building stood on land covered by a concession granted in 1963. That concession later expired, leaving no valid title for its occupation. The demolition permit rules out new structures and does not authorise any later use of the space.
