Luxury hotel near Cala Saona faces inspection call

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

A planned luxury hotel near Cala Saona, Formentera, is facing calls for an inspection after a local party said new hotels are barred on rural land. Gent per Formentera has asked for documents on the project, known as Vestige Can Jordi, and for checks on its planning status.

The party says it learned of the development through specialist websites and social media, where it is promoted as an upcoming Vestige Collection hotel.

Gent per Formentera argues that Formentera's current land-use and tourism rules do not allow new hotel establishments on rural land. It wants authorities to establish what uses have been authorised for the buildings, which licences have been granted and whether any legal permission covers the hotel activity.

The party has also called for inspections covering planning, business activity and tourism rules, saying these checks are needed to clarify the situation and ensure the regulations are followed.
