Mallorca: Over 100 Calvià council workers protest
On Mallorca, more than 100 council workers protest outside the town hall in Calvià on Wednesday, unions say, accusing the council of blocking talks on working conditions. The protest runs from 14.00 to 15.00 and is called by STEI, UGT and Sppme. The three unions say they hold every seat on the council’s staff committee.
After years of meetings and attempts at dialogue that led nowhere, the unions say their proposals have not been addressed. They want a review of council posts, updated financial terms in their agreement and better measures to help staff balance work and family life.
The unions accuse the People’s Party-led council of refusing to shift its position. They say they will protest regularly if the council does not negotiate and move forward on outstanding agreements. They are also considering stronger action.
