Mallorca's Calvià justice office needs two more staff
Around 54,000 people live in Calvià on Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands: the local justice office cannot manage its workload with its current staff, according to the CCOO union. On 16 October 2026, CCOO calls for two more staff to process cases there and nine new posts across the Balearics. It also wants a dedicated justice centre in Calvià, with courts to handle civil and criminal cases.
Two more posts for Llucmajor and Marratxí
CCOO says the justice offices in Llucmajor and Marratxí, also on Mallorca, each need two more case-processing staff. Llucmajor has almost 41,000 residents and Marratxí just over 40,000. The union says neither office can manage its workload with its current staff.
More work and a dispute over pay
The municipal justice offices replaced the former justice of the peace courts. Across the Balearics, CCOO says 62 officials work in 22 of the offices, which handle tasks including civil registration. The offices can also take on cases handled by courts in their judicial district. CCOO says the Ministry of Justice agreed to assess each office’s workload before assigning that work, but the required talks with unions have not taken place.
The union also says staff in these offices earn less than other justice officials. It says they receive no additional pay for serving the public or covering for colleagues in nearby towns.
