Ibiza's Camí des Fil: 6.4 kilometres to get new asphalt

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

On the island of Ibiza, crews are clearing roadside ditches along the Camí des Fil as work begins to resurface 6.4 kilometres of the road in Sant Carles de Peralta, part of Santa Eulària. Santa Eulària town council announced the start on 2 October. It says the work is due to take two months from its start.

Why the road needs work

The Camí des Fil carries especially heavy traffic in summer, according to the council. Its surface has been damaged by regular use, rising traffic and work on a pipeline carrying desalinated water towards es Figueral on Ibiza. The top layer no longer offers adequate safety or durability, the council says.

What the crews will do

Crews will repair the worst stretches and potholes, then mill damaged sections before laying fresh asphalt. They will also clear and improve ditches and drainage crossings. Stone walls affected by the work may be repaired, rebuilt or replaced in places.

The project has a budget of close to €900,000. Hermanos Parrot S.A. won the contract for €817,700, and the council will pay for the work entirely from municipal funds.
