Mallorca’s 132 young walkers face a route of about 114 kilometres: the first group has left for Galicia to walk part of the Camino de Santiago this November. The Mallorca Island Council has split the island residents, aged 18 to 30, into four groups for the second year of its trip. The other three groups are due to leave later this month.

Each group has seven days to follow the French Way from Sarria to Santiago de Compostela. The route passes through Portomarín, Palas de Rei, Arzúa and O Pedrouzo before ending at the Plaza del Obradoiro.

The trip costs €202.50 per person because the council covers 70 per cent of the total cost. Flights, transfers, accommodation, full board, guides and travel insurance are included. The council awarded the available places by public draw among those who registered on time.
