Can Misses A&E patients wait 6.7 hours in Ibiza
Patients at Hospital Can Misses in Eivissa, Ibiza, have waited 6.7 hours for their cases to be dealt with in A&E this year. The service handled 38,355 emergencies, 4 per cent fewer than in the same period of 2025. Health Minister Manuela García gave the figures during Tuesday’s sitting of the Balearic Parliament.
García said the government had spent months reorganising the department. Measures include bringing in paediatricians. During this parliamentary term, the unit has also gained four doctors, 18 nurses and 10 auxiliary nursing-care technicians.
She contrasted the current 6.7-hour wait with 9.2 hours during the previous progressive administration. García apologised to people who had waited longer than they should and said repeated meetings had been held to reshape a service she described as badly damaged after the last term.
Socialist MP Irantzu Fernández challenged García over whether she still denied that Can Misses A&E was overwhelmed. Fernández said the minister had been seen “very little” on the island over the summer and argued that García’s apology amounted to an admission that the department was overloaded.
