Mallorca murder trial: 66 stabs alleged, child in car
Mallorca: Prosecutors seek 27 years in prison for a man accused of stabbing his partner up to 66 times in a car while their daughter, aged under two, sat in the back. The woman died after the attack on the Camí de Can Pastilla in Palma, Mallorca, in December 2024. His jury trial opens on Friday at the Balearic Islands Provincial Court.
A restraining order, then a car journey
A restraining order had barred the man from coming within 500 metres of his partner or contacting her since the previous month. He wore an electronic monitoring band linked to the Cometa system. Prosecutors say he nevertheless persuaded her through calls and messages to collect their daughter from childcare together.
He drove, with the woman beside him and their daughter behind them. On the Camí de Can Pastilla, prosecutors say, he pulled a knife from his clothing and stabbed the woman. They say the cramped car left her unable to defend herself. She died minutes later.
A crash before the arrest
With the woman still in the car, the man suddenly accelerated and caused several traffic accidents, according to prosecutors. He stopped after driving into the back of another car, then got out and tried to flee. Palma Local Police arrested him half an hour later in a nearby park.
Prosecutors seek 25 years for murder, plus one year each for breaching the restraining order and assault in a family setting. They also want him stripped of parental authority and barred for 33 years from contacting his daughters or coming within 1,000 metres of them or their places of study or work. They seek almost €250,000 in compensation for the dead woman’s relatives.
The trial begins at 09.30 on Friday with the selection of a jury. Questioning of the accused and witnesses is due to start at 12.30, and the case is expected to continue the following week.
