Mallorca murder trial: up to 66 stabs, child in car
Mallorca: A man goes on trial on Friday, 2 October, accused of stabbing his partner up to 66 times in a car in Can Pastilla while their two-year-old daughter was with them. The woman died within minutes. The girl suffered minor injuries when the car later crashed.
The jury trial opened at the Provincial Court in Palma with statements from both sides and the first witnesses. The chief inspector who led the National Police murder investigation said he had seen nothing like the attack in his 16 years in the force. When he reached the scene at about 15.30 on 10 December 2024, the woman was already on a stretcher with countless stab wounds.
Why no alarm sounded
A court order had barred the accused from contacting the woman or coming within 500 metres of her since the previous month. Prosecutors say he nevertheless called and messaged her, persuading her to meet him and collect their daughter from childcare together. He asked her to leave her monitoring bracelet at home.
The chief inspector said that was why the electronic monitoring system, called Cometa, sounded no alarm. The man’s tracking device and security cameras later helped police place him at the scene.
The attack and the crash
After they collected the girl, prosecutors say, the man took a knife from his clothing and stabbed the woman as the car travelled along the road through Can Pastilla. With her body still in the car, he suddenly accelerated, caused several traffic accidents and hit another car from behind. The collision injured the girl.
The man fled but Palma Local Police arrested him soon afterwards in a nearby park. According to the chief inspector, he was covered in blood and told officers he had killed his partner.
