Mallorca murder trial: 66 stab wounds, accused found bloody
Up to 66 stab wounds in Can Pastilla, Palma, Mallorca: National Police officers tell a jury on Monday, 5 October, that they found the man accused of killing María del Rosario calm and covered in blood. He was already being held in a police vehicle when they arrived and had a cut on his hand. The trial concerns her death in December 2024; he faces 27 years in prison.
Cameras, blood and a knife
Security cameras and an electronic monitoring device both place the accused at the scene, the officers say. Some footage shows him leaving. They say a video supplied by a witness shows this particularly clearly.
In the car, most of the blood was on the front passenger seat. Officers found a knife beneath a pedal on the driver’s side.
What prosecutors say happened
The prosecution says the man persuaded María del Rosario to meet him and travel together by car to collect their younger daughter from nursery. He asked her to leave her bracelet at home. After they collected the child, he allegedly pulled a knife from his clothing on the road through Can Pastilla and stabbed her up to 66 times. She died minutes later.
With her body in the car, he suddenly accelerated, causing several road accidents before hitting another car from behind and stopping on the road, according to the prosecution. The baby suffered minor injuries. The man fled, but Palma Local Police arrested him shortly afterwards in a park in the area. The jury trial continues at the Provincial Court in Palma.
