Mallorca murder trial: up to 66 stabs, child in car
Mallorca: A man goes on trial in Palma on Friday, 2 October, accused of stabbing his partner up to 66 times while their daughter, aged under two, sat in the back of their car. Prosecutors seek 27 years in prison.
A court ban before the car journey
The killing happened in December 2024 on the Camí de Can Pastilla in Palma, Mallorca. Prosecutors say the man had been ordered the previous month to stay more than 500 metres from the woman and not to contact her. He wore an electronic monitoring bracelet.
Despite the ban, he persuaded her through calls and messages to meet and collect their daughter together from childcare, prosecutors say. He drove, with the woman beside him and their daughter behind them. On the Camí de Can Pastilla, he allegedly pulled a knife from his clothing and attacked her. Prosecutors say the cramped car left her unable to defend herself.
Arrest and jury trial
The woman died minutes later. Prosecutors say the man accelerated with her body still in the car, causing several traffic accidents before hitting another car from behind. He fled on foot, but Palma Local Police arrested him in a nearby park half an hour later.
Prosecutors seek 25 years for murder and one year each for breaching the court order and causing injury in a family setting. They also want him stripped of parental authority, barred from contacting or approaching his daughters for 33 years, and ordered to pay nearly €250,000 to the woman’s family.
The jury is due to be formed at 9.30am on Friday. Questioning of the accused and witness evidence are scheduled from 12.30pm, with further testimony next week.
