Can Pesquet sale leaves Palma weighing next move
Palma City Council is weighing its next move after the Can Pesquet plot in Son Sardina, Palma, was sold to a private individual on Wednesday, 9 September. The council says it had made the budget change needed to buy the land, but another buyer completed the purchase first. Spokeswoman Mercedes Celeste said the council could neither stop nor control a third party buying it first.
Can Pesquet is now privately owned, Celeste said. Palma will examine what action may be possible to revisit the situation, although she gave no details. She said the administration would continue working for people in Son Sardina, with the form of that work to emerge gradually.
At Passeig del Born, Palma will keep restaurant and bar terraces at about 32 square metres. Celeste said the zoning plan set those dimensions on technical grounds, leaving room for people to walk and pass through.
The council will pursue breaches of the permitted terrace size through inspections. Where a business exceeds its allowed area, the relevant penalty must be imposed, Celeste said, while acknowledging that compliance is not always achieved.
In Cala Major, Celeste said the 125-euro charge applies to a premium package containing two premium sun loungers, a parasol and a locker. If organisations file complaints, the council will examine their terms.
