Can Picafort businesses face €43,665 action

Four businesses in Can Picafort, Mallorca, face proceedings with a provisional economic impact of €43,665 after unauthorised items were found on a public street. The Consell de Mallorca has ordered four sanction cases and a precautionary halt to the disputed use on Paseo Ingeniero Antoni Garau. Environmental group GOB reported the move on Monday.

The cases follow a complaint filed on 22 June 2026. Technical inspections then found a large-scale installation of elements on the public highway without permission.

The businesses are accused of continuously occupying coastal protection and transit zones designated under the coast law without authorisation. The proceedings target those behind the commercial activities, while Santa Margalida Town Hall is named subsidiarily as owner of the affected public land.

Unauthorised works and installations in these coastal zones are classed as a serious offence. The provisional calculation is based on 25 per cent of the value of installations in the protection zone and 50 per cent of those in the transit zone.

Any fines would not remove the obligation to hand over all financial gain made from the unauthorised activity to the administration.
