Palma, Mallorca, is close to getting a capital city law: the Balearic Parliament debates the proposal on Tuesday, with enough support expected to pass it. At the same sitting, MPs could approve a change allowing spouses to pass on an inheritance while they are still alive.

Palma City Council approved the capital city bill late last year. Months later, the Balearic Parliament agreed to consider it with votes from the People's Party (PP), the Socialist Party of the Balearic Islands (PSIB) and Vox. Vox now says it will withdraw its support because amendments on other issues were added during the bill’s passage. PP and PSIB have enough votes to pass it without Vox.

The inheritance proposal would change the Balearic Islands’ civil law on marital property. It won unanimous backing two weeks ago. On Tuesday, MPs will first decide whether to use a single-reading fast track. If they do, they can vote on the bill’s approval in the same sitting.

Proceedings begin at 09.00 with questions to government ministers on housing, health, environmental protection and tourism. The sitting also includes debates on climate policy, agricultural law and public housing policy. At 14.30, a new sitting is due to begin on 162 proposals arising from the general policy debate.
