Mallorca car cap: island targets next summer season
Private and hire cars entering Mallorca are set to face a cap before next summer season. The Consell de Mallorca plans to approve the maximum number allowed onto the island by the end of 2026. Its president, Llorenç Galmés, announced the timetable in Palma on Wednesday, 2 September.
Cap awaits October study
On 9 September, Galmés will ask Parliament to begin considering the bill regulating vehicle entry to Mallorca under a fast-track procedure.
The number of vehicles permitted will not be fixed until a new capacity study is completed in October. The council expects the law to pass this autumn and wants the tax ordinance approved by the time the law is passed.
The regulation is due to begin next year, although Galmés did not give a month.
Palma access works continue
The council is also pressing ahead with its Palma access improvement plan, which has a budget of 164 million euros.
Work is expected to begin in the coming months on the roundabout on the Sóller road and the first section of Palma’s Second Ring. Both projects are scheduled to start before the end of 2026.
