Mallorca car entry bill: 44 changes for buses and rail

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

Mallorca’s car entry bill faces 44 proposed changes: the island’s Socialists want more buses and rail services alongside rules on vehicles arriving on the island. The PSIB submitted the amendments on 14 October 2026. It says the bill is needed, but will not tackle congested roads and travel problems on its own.

More ways to travel without a car

The proposals call for more frequent services, additional bus routes and an expanded rail network. Amanda Fernández, secretary-general of the Socialist Federation of Mallorca, also criticised the conservative People’s Party (PP) for dropping the tram and the train to Llevant. She said both projects already had plans and funding assigned.

A possible limit in the Serra de Tramuntana

The amendments would allow vehicle entry to Mallorca’s Serra de Tramuntana to be limited in certain circumstances. They also propose a transport plan covering the whole area.

The PSIB wants transport powers transferred to the Mallorca Island Council and part of the Sustainable Tourism Tax spent on public transport and related infrastructure. Fernández urged the PP to negotiate over the proposals as the bill passes through parliament.
