Spain’s car hire firms demand clear rules as costs climb
Spain’s car hire firms face rising costs and restrictions in some areas: their trade body is calling for stable rules. The national vehicle hire federation, Feneval, raised the concerns at its 2026 congress on Wednesday. Car hire companies and private-hire vehicle firms were among those at the gathering.
Feneval says firms also face legal uncertainty and the challenge of switching their fleets to electric vehicles. It wants rules that can keep pace with new ways of getting around.
The federation’s new president, Mar Fuentes, wants a stronger voice for the businesses when public authorities draw up those rules. She says car hire and private-hire vehicles help people travel for holidays and work. Feneval has not proposed specific changes.
