Menorca car limit: Prohens vows action this term
Menorca’s planned car limit will become reality before the end of this legislative term, Balearic president Marga Prohens said in Palma on 9 September. The measure would control the entry of cars onto the island. It is tied to a planned change to the law governing Menorca’s Biosphere Reserve.
Speaking during the first government scrutiny session of the political year in the Balearic Parliament, Prohens said the legal change was needed to make the limit possible. She said specialists at Menorca’s Island Council had recommended it.
Més per Menorca dismissed the amendment as “theatre”. Its MP Josep Castells accused the Island Council and the Balearic Government of misleading Menorca’s people, arguing that the Biosphere Reserve law does not need changing to restrict vehicle entry.
Prohens hit back that Castells could not accept that his party had not been the one to deliver the measure. Castells said a fresh excuse was being offered every summer.
