Mallorca murder trial: 66 stab wounds, child in car
Mallorca: A man goes on trial in Palma on Friday, 2 October 2026, accused of stabbing his partner up to 66 times in a car while their two-year-old daughter was inside. Maria del Rosario died after the attack near Can Pastilla in Palma, Mallorca, in December 2024. Prosecutors are seeking 27 years in prison and €250,000 in compensation for her family.
They met despite a restraining order
A court order had barred the man from coming within 500 metres of his partner or contacting her since the previous month. He wore an electronic tracking tag. Prosecutors say he persuaded her to meet after several calls and messages, and they drove together to collect their younger daughter from nursery.
After they picked up the girl, the man pulled a knife from his clothes as they drove along a road near Can Pastilla, according to the prosecution. Maria del Rosario died minutes later.
A crash, an arrest and a jury trial
With her body still in the car, the man accelerated and caused several traffic accidents, prosecutors say. He stopped after crashing into the back of another car. The toddler suffered minor injuries.
The man fled, but Palma Local Police arrested him shortly afterwards in a nearby park. At the opening of the jury trial at the Provincial Court in Palma, his lawyer acknowledged that much of the evidence pointed to his client. He said the accused disputes parts of the prosecution’s account and wants to give his version of events.
