Palma, Mallorca, Friday 6 November: The Balearic government authorises an extra €1.99 million for car scrappage grants, taking the fund to €3.99 million. The money could help cover more applications to scrap the most polluting vehicles. Government spokesman Antoni Costa announced the decision after the Council of Government meeting.

The fund started with €2 million. The grants are linked to the tax on tourist stays and measures to promote sustainable tourism. The Council of Government has authorised the Ministry for Business, the Self-Employed and Energy to expand the budget.

The extra money is intended for applications submitted by 4 July. Costa said grants can be paid only while funds remain available and only if payment can be made within the 2026 budget year.
