Mallorca first aid tents teach cardiac arrest response
Around 800 cardiac and respiratory arrests a year: that is the workload of emergency service SAMU 061, which is showing people in Palma, Mallorca, how to respond to cardiac arrest and choking on Friday, 16 October 2026. At its training tent in Plaça d'Espanya, staff aim to teach people the right techniques for both emergencies, the Balearic health department says. The event marks World Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Day.
SAMU 061 has also set up tents outside the town hall in Ciutadella, Menorca, and in Plaça d'Antoni Albert i Nieto on Eivissa. Balearic health minister Manuela García and Javier Ureña, director general of the Balearic Health Service, visited the Palma tent on Friday morning.
The emergency service has also presented new life-support manuals at basic, intermediate and advanced levels. The Spanish Council for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation has endorsed the updated material for training professionals and the public. The health department says SAMU 061 is the council’s first official partner organisation.
