Mallorca care needs: 149 assessors cleared in Balearics
Mallorca has trained 60 care assessors this year as 149 professionals across the Balearic Islands gain approval to assess people’s care needs. The Balearic Department of Families, Social Welfare and Care for Dependent People announced the accreditations on 8 October 2026. The assessors can use the official care-needs rating scale, known as BVD.
Two courses took place on Mallorca this year, the latest last week. The 60 people trained on those courses join 65 from Mallorca and 24 from Menorca who passed the course in late 2025, bringing the total to 149.
The courses aim to increase the number of people able to carry out assessments and cut waiting lists. They last 15 hours and are open to university-qualified professionals in health and social care, including nurses, physiotherapists, social workers and psychologists. Training also covers individual care plans and reviewing a person’s current situation.
