Mallorca care home rooms shut two months after storm

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

Mallorca has two care home rooms still out of use: they remain closed at the Bartomeu Quetglas home in Felanitx two months after a storm, the local Socialist Party (PSOE) says on 23 October. The people who occupied them had to be moved urgently after water entered the building and ceiling panels fell on 21 August. The party says no full repair work has begun.

The PSOE blames the Mallorcan Institute of Social Affairs (IMAS), which runs the home. Its Felanitx spokeswoman, M. Gracia González, accuses the institute of poor management over the delay.

The party says the area already lacks public care home places. It wants the damaged ceiling repaired immediately and the rooms reopened only when they are safe.
