On Formentera, care assistants at the Residencia de Formentera win a 2026 union award after years of staff shortages and heavy demands caring for older people. The General Union of Workers (UGT) announced on 30 October that they had received the Toni Gelabert Award for Trade Union Excellence.

The union says organisational problems added to the pressure, but the assistants continued to care for older people and safeguard their dignity. UGT praises their professionalism, commitment and compassion. It says the award brings attention to work that often goes unnoticed.
