Mallorca's Carme Gomila puts housing in Congress bid
Mallorca’s housing problems are at the heart of a new Congress bid: Carme Gomila, from Manacor, Mallorca, is standing for Ara Més-Front Ampli in Spain’s general election on 29 November. The Ara Més federal committee confirms her candidacy on Saturday, 24 October, after the MÉS per Mallorca assembly backed her, the coalition says.
Gomila says she wants to represent Mallorca, Menorca, Eivissa and Formentera in the Congress of Deputies. She names access to housing, the effects of overcrowding and the islands’ lack of a say in decisions affecting daily life as key issues. She also calls for party members to work together on the campaign.
A Manacor councillor from 2019 to 2026, Gomila is president of Esquerra Republicana in the Balearic Islands and handles strategy and political relations for MÉS per Mallorca. She praises Vicenç Vidal, who has represented Balearic sovereignists in Congress during the current term, for his work for the islands.
Her confirmation ends the alliance’s internal process for choosing its lead candidate. Parties in Front Ampli will take second and fourth places on the candidate list; the other places go to the sovereignist parties.
