Mallorca's florists want people to give carnations for Dia de les Verges: a new campaign urges them to buy the flowers from local shops as the festival takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Mallorca Florists' Association launched the campaign with retail association Pimeco and the Mallorca Chamber of Commerce, Pimeco said on Tuesday, 20 October 2026.

The groups want younger generations to carry on the custom. They say a carnation given at this time is a sign of appreciation and closeness, while buying one from a neighbourhood florist supports the people who work there.

The campaign also makes a case for the shops themselves. The groups say local florists bring activity to the streets, support the local economy and offer the personal service associated with small businesses.
