Mallorca cartography: 15 regions meet in Palma
Fifteen Spanish regions are bringing mapping projects and location data to Palma de Mallorca on Thursday and Friday. The Balearic Islands Institute of Cartography and Geography is hosting the 2026 Cartography Days of the Autonomous Communities at Ca n'Oleo.
The meeting puts new public-administration projects, technical experience and scientific results on the table. According to the Ministry of Housing, Territorial Planning and Mobility, specialists will examine the latest work in cartography and geospatial information.
One session looks at work by the Balearic Statistics Institute and the islands’ cartography institute on postal addresses across the islands. Representatives from the Valencian Community and Andalusia will also present similar projects.
Thursday’s programme also covers updates to a digital twin using drone flights, as well as geographical and demographic information for emergency management. On Friday, Emilio López, director of the National Centre for Geographic Information, will address data policy, data governance, land observation and strategic programmes in Spain’s National Cartographic System.
The second session will also examine geographical information for emergencies and the move from spatial-data infrastructure towards infrastructure for spatial knowledge.
