Mallorca's Casa plan could help children return home

Responsible for this content: Frank Menze

On the Spanish island of Mallorca, a 24-month project aims to help children return to their families when specialists judge it right for them. The Council of Mallorca presented the Casa project on Friday, 6 November. It also aims to prevent or address situations in which children lack adequate protection.

Help for families and children in care

Casa will work intensively with families on parenting skills, family relationships and making the home a safe place for children. For children and teenagers in residential care, that help will sit alongside the work of their existing care and specialist teams.

A decision for each child

A return home will depend on an individual assessment, with the child's best interests guiding the decision. The Mallorcan Institute of Social Affairs will identify and refer cases, coordinate the specialist work and track their progress.

Fundació Natzaret will work with families on Mallorca, while Asociación FICE España will coordinate the project. The European Social Fund Plus will help fund it.
