Ibiza's Casa Lola eviction starts after months of squatting

Police begin a court-ordered eviction at Casa Lola in Sant Josep, Ibiza, on Tuesday, 27 October, after months of what the owner’s lawyers call illegal occupation. Civil Guard officers, local police and a municipal social services team are at the property, Sant Josep council says. The eviction follows a ruling by Eivissa’s Court of Investigation No. 2.

The owner’s lawyers say the occupation has led to repeated incidents, disputes, assaults and fires, as well as one death. They have not said whether the eviction is complete.

The owner plans to bring in private security, seal the building and wall it up to prevent another occupation, according to the lawyers. The aim is then to clean and restore the property, and bring peace back to neighbours in the area.
