Fatal Casa Lola fire on Ibiza sparks council row
A resident’s death after a fire at Casa Lola in Sant Josep on Ibiza sparks a council row: opposition councillors say the mayor has not answered their request for an explanation. On Tuesday, 29 September, PSOE, Unidas Podemos, Ara Eivissa and independent councillor Raquel Ripoll criticised how mayor Vicent Roig had handled information about the fire.
The groups say they asked Roig on Sunday evening to explain what had happened or call a meeting of party spokespeople. They received no reply. On Monday, Roig spoke at a press conference attended by other members of his party, the People’s Party. According to the opposition, none of its councillors was told about it or invited.
The groups call it “incomprehensible” that people outside the council received information while opposition councillors were left out. They say their complaint is about how the council operates, not party politics. They also say they learnt details about the expiry of provisional planning rules from the media.
