Pep Castells quits Menorca Parliament race after 12 years
Pep Castells will not stand for re-election to the Parliament after 12 years representing Menorca in Palma. The Més per Menorca deputy announced on Friday, 4 September 2026, that he will not enter his party’s primaries. He made the decision public in a letter to supporters and voters shared on social media.
Castells said he was stepping aside for reasons of “democratic hygiene”, arguing that people should not remain in office for too long. He said Més per Menorca has well-prepared people ready to represent the public and bring fresh drive to parliamentary work.
He urged party members, particularly younger ones, to put themselves forward to represent Menorca in the Parliament.
Castells said his political commitment would not end with his decision. Once the current term is over, he plans to return to his professional work while continuing to support Més per Menorca from the grassroots.
He said he would keep working until the final day of the legislature, which ends in June 2027 when the new Parliament is formed.
