Mallorca’s Catalan book week sees sales rise in Palma
In Palma, Mallorca, booksellers report higher sales at Catalan book week than in previous years. The 37th Setmana del Llibre en Català ended on Sunday with a tribute to Rafel Ginard. On Monday, 28 September, the Mallorca Booksellers’ Guild said the week’s events had also drawn strong attendance.
Joan Miquel Oliver’s La vida no són matemàtiques and Laura Gost’s El preu de néixer were among the week’s bestselling books. The booksellers’ list also included Prometeu de mil maneres by Carles Rebassa and Sala Augusta by Aina Fullana.
The guild singled out Rebassa’s opening address, a tribute to Biel Mesquida and the launches of Oliver’s and Gost’s books as well-attended events. This year also brought the Palma event’s first collaboration with its counterpart in Barcelona: both held a recital at midday on Sunday in honour of Blai Bonet. The Mallorca Literaria Foundation organised the closing tribute to Ginard.
