Catalan certificates verified online through Pinbal

On 18 August, the Balearic Government’s Directorate General of Culture activated an online service in Palma, Mallorca, allowing participating public authorities to verify official Catalan language certificates through the Balearic Islands Interoperability Platform, Pinbal. The service is available to public bodies and administrations signed up to the archipelago’s telematic interoperability agreement, which can apply for access through the platform’s portal.

Checks cover certificates issued after official examinations by competent government bodies, including the Junta Evaluadora de Catalán, the Directorate General of Culture, the Directorate General for Language Policy and the Balearic Islands Studies Institute.

The database does not yet include equivalences arising from formal education, equivalent certificates or certificates issued by other island bodies, including the Official Language School and the Balearic School of Public Administration.

The measure is intended to accelerate checks of language requirements in recruitment processes for permanent civil servants, interim officials and temporary staff. Authorities will be able to consult official records directly, meaning applicants will not have to submit certificates already held by the administration.

The Directorate General of Culture is also working to extend the service to further Catalan-language records, including equivalences linked to secondary education completed in the Balearic Islands.
