Mallorca's Catalan for newcomers: Inca hosts talks
On Mallorca, Catalan for newcomers takes centre stage on 21 October: people who have learned the language will share their experiences at the Museum of Education in Inca, Mallorca. The Institute of Balearic Studies is holding its tenth conference on promoting the use of Catalan there. It will look at how migration is changing the Balearic Islands and what leads adults who have moved there to learn and use the language.
Speakers will also discuss how different languages coexist on the islands. Public bodies from the Balearics, Andorra and Catalonia will present their work helping newcomers with language, alongside initiatives run by social organisations.
The conference is aimed mainly at language advisers, staff who promote language use and people in social organisations working with migrants. Anyone interested can attend in person or online. Registration is open through the institute’s website until 15 October.
